The "New
Recording Industry"
Where is it heading? |
As many of you know, the record industry has seen some significant
changes in recent years. Traditional record labels
have taken a huge hit as a result of illegal downloads and
file-sharing. Many would say the music industry as we have known it for the the last
50 years is about to see a dramatic shift. A shift
away from huge record labels playing the role of
"middle man" and keeping an "unfairly"
high percentage of the profits and a shift towards putting
the control back where it belongs, with the artist and the
listener. Imagine paying half as much as you used to for a
CD or download while the artist receives 4 times what they
do today with conventional records sales. We think
that sounds pretty cool and so do a lot of other people -
musicians, and listeners alike.
Though there have been many recent innovations in
self-marketing via the internet and dozens of great emerging
websites aimed at helping artists sell their own music, the
fact remains, no one in the industry is 100% certain of the
direction the industry is headed. But we do know that
it's changing rapidly and so It's our goal to stay well
informed and to aggressively peruse new and exciting ways to
help our clients stay on the cutting edge when it comes to
marketing their material. We're musicians too, after
all, so we are passionate about supporting an industry which
is both fair for the artist and consumer, and which
fosters a strong sense of musical integrity. It's time
for us to redefine the music industry!
So what does this all mean for Demo My Song and
you?
In our quest to find the best ways to market music in
"tomorrows" music industry, we have found what we
feel may be the best service yet for artists to sell their
music online. It's called SongSlide - an online music
store in which the buyer can actually bid on how much they
want to pay for songs they wish to purchase. With this service you can
download tracks for as little .59 cents which is a great
alternative for those who are constantly tempted to download
music illegally in lieu of having to pay a dollar or more
through services like itunes. However, if you choose
to, you can pay as much as $9.00 per song, $8.00 of which
would go directly to the artist.
We thought they were on to something so, in September 2007,
we partnered up with SongSlide and are now offering to help
all of our clients by posting their songs as well as a bio
and photograph on the SongSlide website. Now clients
can get a great song demo and just weeks later, their song
can be online and for sale with one of the most exciting new
services in the market. This optional service is 100%
free to our clients so we hope you take advantage of
it. If you get a chance, be sure the check out the
SongSlide website:
